Now, noted analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has reported in his weekly newsletter Power On that Apple already knows about the weight issue of Vision Pro and the company has developed a top strap for the headset to address the issue. However, Apple will not ship the top strap in the box with the headset.

Vision Pro Top strap as an accessory

One of the reasons why Vision Pro feels heavy on the face is that it is made entirely of aluminum and has multiple glass displays. Therefore, wearing it for a long period pressurizes the wearer’s face with its weight. The top strap can balance the weight and reduce the pressure on the face. But, Apple does not consider it a mandatory accessory that needs to be shipped in the box. Instead, users can choose to purchase it additionally.  Here’s what Gurman has to say: “With more people testing the headset, its shortcomings are coming under greater scrutiny. Many users are finding that the metal-framed device feels too heavy after a couple hours of continuous use. Some also say that they’ve experienced motion sickness, but on a more minor scale than with competing headsets. To address the weight issue, Apple has developed a second strap that goes over a wearer’s head. But the company is considering selling that strap as an extra accessory rather than including it in the box.” This will not be the only accessory that users will need to purchase additionally. Zeiss corrective lenses are also something that users who wear glasses will purchase. Gurman further writes that only senior employees are allowed to take Vision Pro home at Apple. However, this will change soon. Also, Apple has plans to allow select developers with the hands-on device to boost app development for VisionOS. To market Vision Pro, Apple is planning to create new areas within its retail stores where demonstrations will be carried out. Here, buyers will also be able to choose the preferred fitting for light seal and band to wear the device comfortably. Apple Vision Pro is expected to be launched in early 2024 at a hefty price of $3,499. As per Gurman, “early” means sometime before May next year.
