Apple released the first beta of iOS 16.6 at the end of May and now a third beta for the iOS operating system has been outed. The previous two beta versions did not contain any major features, instead, there were some bug fixes and performance upgrades.  We are expecting the same for iOS 16.6 developer beta 3. One of the reasons why iOS 16.6 beta 3 is just an incremental update with very few changes is that Apple is currently focusing on iOS 17 public beta. It has been two weeks since Apple unveiled iOS 17 at its World Wide Developer Conference held in early June. The new iOS update comes with a slew of features like NameDrop, new contact card customization, interactive widgets, Live Stickers, and more. While Apple released the iOS 17 developer beta right after the event, some are eagerly waiting for Apple to release iOS 17 public beta as developer beta is usually considered unstable and it is not recommended to install a developer beta on a daily driver.

iOS 16.6 Expected Features

As Apple is progressing towards releasing the stable iOS 16.6 after it has seeded its third beta today, we can expect the following features that can arrive with iOS 16.6: Apple included an option for iMessage Contact Key verification in the first beta of iOS 16.6. However, the option disappeared in the second beta. So, we are expected to out the safety feature with iOS 16.6 when it is available for the general audience. For the unaware, iMessage Contact Key Verification is intended for those who face the extreme danger of digital threats. Using contact keys, they can verify if they are sending messages to the right person. 2. New iCloud for Windows prompt A new prompt will pop up when you try to sign in on iCloud for Windows and your iPhone is connected to a different WiFi network than your Windows PC. The popup will advise users to be on the same network before they can proceed. This was made available in iOS 16.6 beta 2. 3. Two new color icons for Beats Studio Buds With iOS 16.6 beta 2, Apple added two new color icons – ivory and transparent – for Betas Studio Buds.
