Killers of the Flower Moon is based on the book of the same name, written by David Grann. The movie will depict the story of a criminal investigation that takes place during the brutal killings of Osage people in Oklahoma throughout the 1920s.

An Apple Original movie

The movie is expected to be one of the most awaited films of this year due to its star cats and the fact that it is the first narrative from the iconic director Martin Scorcese after The Irishman, which was released back in 2019. The official synopsis of the movie describes it as follows: “At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story… ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal.” Killers of the Flower Moon is also the first Apple Original Film that will be released in theatres before streaming on Apple TV+. It is considered to be part of Apple’s strategy where critically acclaimed movies with star studded cast will be released in theatres before exclusively streaming on Apple TV+. This way Apple is expecting a huge number of eyeballs when a movie releases on its streaming platform as compared to movies that get released first on Apple TV+. It was reported by Bloomberg that Apple is splashing more than $1 billion annually on its original movies. The company has partnered with Paramount for the distribution and theatrical release of Paramount for Killers of the Flower Moon. The highly anticipated movie garnered a great response at Cannes where it was premiered and currently has an impressive rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. Killers of the Flower Moon will begin its theatrical run on October 6 and will be released across the U.S. and in international theatres on October 20 this year.
