The new EOS R100 is compact and light, measuring at 116.3 x 85.5 x 68.8 mm and weighing approximately 356 grams. Like most of Canon’s shooters, it too shares a similar design language, except for differing button placements and the lack of any form of weather resistance. Unlike the EOS R10, the entry-level camera lacks a vari-angle display in the back, which is instead replaced with a fixed 3-inch TFT 1.04 million dots LCD screen with no touch-based interactivity. Situated above it is a 0.39-inch OLED electronic viewfinder with 2.36 million dots resolution. Internally, the camera is equipped with a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor, which is paired together with Canon’s DIGIC 8 image processor. In addition, it features an ISO range of 100 to 12,800 (expandable up to 25,600), as well as Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus (AF) with up to 143 AF zones and supports Face and Eye detection capabilities. The company says the EOS R100 can continuously snap up to 6.5fps thanks to its electronic shutter, and is capable of recording cropped 4K resolution videos at 25 fps or full-width 1080p at up to 60 fps. There’s no built-in stabilisation, but you can remedy this by pairing it up with any in-lens IS equipped Canon lens. As for connectivity, onboard are 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 capabilities, though do take note that the camera does not come with built-in live streaming support. Besides that, the EOS R100 has a USB-C port for charging and data transfer, a Micro HDMI port and a 3.5mm microphone jack on the side, as well as a single UHS-I SD card slot situated in the same compartment as its removable battery at the bottom. Speaking of which, powering the camera is Canon’s LP-E17 battery, and keep in mind that it is not compatible with any battery grip. The new Canon EOS R100 is slated to be available in certain regions by July this year, though its expected arrival for the local market has yet to be determined by the company. However, Canon Malaysia has confirmed with Lowyat.NET that the camera will retail at RM2,379 for body only, or RM2,899 when included together with the RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens.
