According to ITHome which spotted the leak on the Chinese social media website Weibo, the leaker has cited a source in Foxconn, the Apple supplier for the information about bigger batteries across the board.
18% increase in battery size
As per the leaker, the standard iPhone 15 model will have an 18% bigger battery as compared to iPhone 14. iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro will get a 14% battery, whereas, the top-end iPhone variant – iPhone 15 Pro Max- is set to arrive with a 12% bigger battery. While the changes might not seem to be significant in Pro models, a jump of 18% in the vanilla iPhone 15 will definitely bring a huge boost to the battery life. Here’s how the battery capacities will look for iPhone 15 series if we translate these percentages into numbers:
iPhone 15 – 3877mAH (18% increase from 3279mAh in iPhone 14) iPhone 15 Plus – 4912mAH (14% increase from 4325mAH in iPhone 14 Plus) iPhone 15 Pro – 3650mAH (14% increase from 3200mAH in iPhone 14 Pro) iPhone 15 Pro Max – 4852mAH (12% increase from 4323mAH in iPhone 14 Pro Max)
However, the size of the battery is not the only factor that decides the battery life of an iPhone. The efficiency of processors is equally responsible for it. TAs it has become a tradition now, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will retain the A16 Bionic chip from last year’s iPhone 14 Pro models. And iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models will get A17 Bionic. Interestingly, A17 Bionic is based on 3nm fabrication technology. In comparison, the previous A-series chip aka A16 Bionic was based on a 5nm fabrication process. The 3nm fabrication process is touted to bring a huge boost in performance and efficiency. When coupled with bigger batteries, we could see a massive improvement in overall performance from this year’s iPhones. Another detail that has been revealed by ITHome is that iPhone 15 Pro models will start with 256GB as the base storage, whereas iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will retain the 128GB storage in the base model.
