The streaming service made the official announcement across its Malaysian social media channels by posting a rather classy short video that highlighted its Korean reality show, Physical: 100:
— Netflix Malaysia (@NetflixMY) February 21, 2023 In general, you are looking at a 25% reduction over the previous monthly fee which was first put into effect in January 2020. In fact, this is the lowest monthly price for the streaming service’s Basic Plan to date as the tier was priced much higher at RM33 when Netflix made its official debut in Malaysia back in 2016. The new pricing is yet another major update that Netflix has implemented on the Basic Plan for Malaysian customers within just a few months. Back in November last year, the service increased the resolution output to 720p HD for Basic Plan subscribers as opposed to the 480p SD output that has been part of the plan since its 2016 debut in our market. Aside from the price update, no changes have been made on other allocations within the Basic Plan as subscribers continue to be able to watch and download content on one device at a time in addition to the 720p HD output. The new price has since been reflected on Netflix’s signup page as well as its Help Centre for Malaysia. As for existing Basic Plan subscribers in Malaysia, Netflix said that the price update will be reflected in their billing in the coming weeks. Essentially, the timing depends on their billing cycle and they will receive further information regarding this through email. For three other Netflix subscription tiers, they remain the same for the time being. Furthermore, the Netflix Basic with Ads plan remains unavailable in Malaysia as noted in the service’s Help Centre.
