Netflix revealed the season renewal and recasting for Geralt of Rivia earlier on Saturday, with both Cavill and Hemsworth revealing the decision. Though it is still officially unknown why the streaming service is doing so, it is safe to say that the reason is clear: after his cameo in the recent DCEU movie, Black Adam, as Superman, Cavill then took to social media to confirm that he was returning to his role as the Man of Steel.

In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.” Cavill said on his official Instagram account. Around the same time as the post, Hemsworth also posted his announcement of his taking up the role of Geralt of Rivia on Instagram as well. “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”

It should come as no surprise that the internet’s reaction towards the news of changing of actors have been less than accepting, which fans still unclear as to why Cavill can’t just take both the roles as Man of Steel and Geralt of Rivia. In our minds, we’re just sad that we may not get the light-hearted banter between Cavill and co-star Joey Batey over Warhammer and their favourite armies. On that note, we’re still waiting to see a wargaming session between the two. (Source: Kotaku, Variety, IGN, Instagram [1] [2])
