The long-awaited arrival of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update was formally made via the release of a trailer, which CDPR is also dubbing the “Complete Edition”. To recap, it is a free update for those who already own the base game and its two expansions, as well as for newcomers to the World of the Witcher. Besides new 4K texture packs, the next-gen update for the game will also include a number of other improvements and enhancements, both in-game and visually. With regards to the last one, this includes support for ray-tracing, improved Screen Space Reflections and foliage, as well as support for FSR 2.1 and DLSS 3 for those who own the game on PC. As for the other features, the list includes:
A choice between 60 fps performance mode and 30 fps with ray-tracing on the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Over-the-shoulder camera and photo mode on PC. Cross-save between the PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Haptic Feedback for the DualSense controller on the PS5. A new Quick Sign Casting option that negates the need to manually choose your signs from the scroll wheel. A new filter that removes the onslaught of “?” symbols seen on the game’s map. A new option to make the mini-map disappear while riding Roach or even during combat. New questline, inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher series. New NPCs and costumes for virtually all companion characters. Bug fixes.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been lauded as one of the best game titles to be released within the last decade, and as one of CDPR’s best titles, before the storm of negativity it garnered with the following title, Cyberpunk 2077. Ironically, while the next-gen update for its 2015 title is already confirmed to support DLSS 3, there is still no word as to when the dystopian sci-fi shooter will be receiving an update to support NVIDIA’s latest AI upscaling technology, which is honestly a real game changer for it. Who knows, perhaps we’ll see it with the launch of its upcoming paid expansion, Phantom Liberty. (Source: CDPR via YouTube, Kotaku)
